July Art Bead Scene Challenge

Here's the July Art Bead Scene Challenge - the Lascaux Cave Paintings. I am so excited - I was actually there! When I was in college, I spent a summer in Toulouse France at the Dickinson College Study Center. We were the first summer group - we had a blast! We would work all week, then take weekends and run around the south of France with our very cool professors. This was one of the side trips we took. You can't go into the caves anymore - people who were taking photos were ruining them. It was so amazing to think how old these paintings were, and I consider myself extremely lucky that I got to see them - even if I didn't appreciate it at the time! I hope I can come up with something to make this month. Right now, I have to go do tons of laundry, and try to get my brain back from jetlag! Hopefully later I'll be able to post a few more of my photos! The engineer took the best ones, of course, so I need to find his too!

Please see my etsy store for some SALE items!!!!! More will be marked on sale later, when my brain gets a little less foggy!!!!

Hi Sue
So nice to see you had a great time..oh how I wish I could go overseas too! My parents have gone to Portugal several times recently and have brought back similar pieces. You're one lucky lady!

Bead Soup Blog Party!

Welcome to the 3rd Bead Soup Blog Party! What is a Bead Soup Blog Party? Each beader was paired up with another jewelry designer and tasked with sending the following: ~ A focal ~ A special clasp (not just a lobster claw) ~ Some coordinating spacers or beads Using the focal and the clasp was mandatory, but we could use anything from our own stash to round out the rest, and choose to use the coordinating beads or not. You may recall my partner was Margot Potter ; click this link to see the blog post I wrote of what she sent me! Here's what I made! Dangly earrings! Come see what the rest of us made! 1. The Tacky Earring Blog Hop

Diana Ptaszynski had a great idea, instead of a Tacky Christmas Sweater blog hop, a Tacky Holiday Earring blog hop! I was on it.  I had ideas right away.  I had so many I had to control myself.  You can buy these for $15 each, too!  Here we go! I found these awesome wreaths in the miniature Christmas section in Michaels, and they go perfectly with silver and copper colored plastic beads! These trees were found in Michaels, on an end-cap - I assume they are scrapbook or card making supplies, but make fantastic earrings.  The holes were a little small and far down, so I had to make LARGE loops.  Paired these with cute little gold colored jingle bells! And, finally, the ones I had in my head the moment she announced the blog hop.  Dr. Seuss sparkly puff balls with ribbons.  The only thing that would have made these better for me is if I could have found the red ribbons I really wanted to pair these with - don't get me wrong, the silver is ...

AE Component of the Month - July - Scarabs by Me!

I provided the scarab beads for the Component of the Month Challenge over at Art Elements for July! And as usual, didn't take a photo of my own bead before I started working with it.  But here is the one I used - unfortunately, you can't see the lustrous oil slick colors of this black metallic glass because once again we have cloudy days here in Pittsburgh. I made a choker length necklace using spiral stitch and these awesome seed beads that go so well with this black metallic glass! I used hematite swarovski crystals to divide the bead stitching and the scarab focal bead; I actually ordered a pile of pairs of various black swarovski colors and decided that these match the best! I finished off the necklace with the ball socket clasp - it's a nice way to finish a spiral stitch - the size is just right and it's fairly easy to sew into the design. Please check out what our guests and team members made with their scarabs! And thanks to everyone who took par...
