Wonky Bead Blog Hop - Kristi Bowman

Today is the reveal for Kristi Bowman's Wonky Bead Blog Hop.

We purchased sets of polymer clay beads at a discounted price, and were challenged to make something wonderful with them!  They are very cool beads, btw!  Below is the group shot of the color palette I chose - I actually received the set second from the left.

Initially I thought chunky bracelet would be the way to go.  And then I thought that maybe it would be too predictable, so I decided to go with a wire-wrapped looooooong necklace.  I started looking for beads that I had made that would work with the colors.  On hand, the only ones I could come up with are these red transparent ones, and they just really didn't go.

I went through my stash of gems and found these cappucino jasper beads that I thought might work.  I tried setting them up in an assymetrical pattern with Kristi's beads, but it just wasn't happening.

I did find these red vintage lucite beads in my stash and they went perfectly.  So I patinaed my copper wire with liver of sulpher because shiny wasn't going to work with these beads.  Then I got to wrapping.

I am just totally not feeling this look.  I actually decided to just stop, because I couldn't see wasting any more wire or time on something that totally wasn't going to work.  I now have a new idea in my head.

I think I'm going to try stringing multiple strands of seed beads with Kristi's beads, in matte shades of ivory, brown and turquoise. I'd really like to try and incorporate some of my own beads in the mix, but I'm not sure if they will work.  I'm very much interested in seeing what everyone else did with their beads!  Please visit Kristi's blog for links to everyone else.  A big sorry to Kristi for my big fail, and thanks as well for offering your beads at a discounted price for this hop.  When I do get the design finished, I will re-post.  Have to go order those beads now!

No worries Sue, that's what a challenge is all about. Sometimes it works sometimes not. I'm happy you have another idea brewing and look forward to seeing it. I thought what you had done so far was looking pretty good but maybe your new idea will be even better!! Thank you Sue!

I don't think it's a fail at all Sue, just a work in progress. I love how you've designed the piece, and I like the idea of some seed beads with maybe some of your wonderful spacers between them, on a separate strand, would bring the design together in the way you envisioned.
Hi Suesan,
I liked the start you made with the necklace, but I understand when you are just not feeling it or the beads do not want to cooperate with the design you had planned for them. Pleas show your finished piece when it is finishe I would love to see it.

I like the start of your necklace, but I can understand if you are not "feeling" it. These beads seemed to be a bit of a challenge for most of us also.

I'm intrigued by your new idea of the seed beads and can't wait to see how it comes out.

I like your idea. Too bad it didn't work. Can't wait to see what you come up with. Those vintage Lucite beads look wonderful with the wonky beads.

Hi, Sue! I kind of liked what you had started there, but I know what you mean about not "feeling it". Can't wait to see what you end up making!

Bead Soup Blog Party!

Welcome to the 3rd Bead Soup Blog Party! What is a Bead Soup Blog Party? Each beader was paired up with another jewelry designer and tasked with sending the following: ~ A focal ~ A special clasp (not just a lobster claw) ~ Some coordinating spacers or beads Using the focal and the clasp was mandatory, but we could use anything from our own stash to round out the rest, and choose to use the coordinating beads or not. You may recall my partner was Margot Potter ; click this link to see the blog post I wrote of what she sent me! Here's what I made! Dangly earrings! Come see what the rest of us made! 1. The Tacky Earring Blog Hop

Diana Ptaszynski had a great idea, instead of a Tacky Christmas Sweater blog hop, a Tacky Holiday Earring blog hop! I was on it.  I had ideas right away.  I had so many I had to control myself.  You can buy these for $15 each, too!  Here we go! I found these awesome wreaths in the miniature Christmas section in Michaels, and they go perfectly with silver and copper colored plastic beads! These trees were found in Michaels, on an end-cap - I assume they are scrapbook or card making supplies, but make fantastic earrings.  The holes were a little small and far down, so I had to make LARGE loops.  Paired these with cute little gold colored jingle bells! And, finally, the ones I had in my head the moment she announced the blog hop.  Dr. Seuss sparkly puff balls with ribbons.  The only thing that would have made these better for me is if I could have found the red ribbons I really wanted to pair these with - don't get me wrong, the silver is cool and all, but in my head they w
