Kristi Bowman Design Big Hole Challenge

Kristi, of Kristi Bowman Design, created some fabulous big hole components and decided to have a challenge! I did not win one of the giveaway beads, but I did purchase one to take part in the challenge! I love the one she sent me - sunflower! I had an idea in my head immediately what I wanted to do!  I created the disc bead from a peach colored Bullseye glass, and connected it to the big hole bead with a floral copper bead cap and a copper disc, and a hand-made balled-end head pin!  I made the bail, too, as a way to connect it!  Turned out quite cool!
I used this gorgeous copper patinated clasp I received from someone (sorry, someone, I believe is was from a bead swap or challenge) because it just matched so perfectly.
I used GORGEOUS sunstone beads that I had in my stash, and copper seed beads in the design too!
I made the necklace slightly asymmetrical by stringing the sunstone beads that way, and finished the necklace with copper chain and a gorgeous orange silk cord!  This is actually the second necklace I created with this piece.  The first one had lower quality sunstone beads that I had found first, and the silk cord was used by itself without the chain.
It looks SOOOOOO much better to me this way and I have to say I am totally thrilled with it!  My son even said, wow, if I was a girl, I'd wear it!  Thanks for visiting!
If you want to see what everyone else made, check out the list below!  And have fun!

Stunning Sue, I love how you used that piece of glass, it almost makes it looks like a toggle but it's not. Beautiful work as always my friend, thank you so much for joining my hop!

What a lovely necklace! Nice praise from your son, too! Everything matches so well, it looks like it was "made for each other".

Gorgeous! I love how you used your own lampwork disc as a connector! How clever! The beads and other elements you used really show of the donut so well!

Very fun! I love the color of your sandstones and how well they (and all of your components) blend color-wise. Such a warm, sunny piece!

Very fun! I love how well your sunstones, and all your other components work with the Kristi's copper focal, both color-wise and and in theme.

I'd definitely wear this! :)

Very pretty! I love the sunstones with the focal. They really accent it perfectly! -Heather, from thecrafthopper.com
If your son says he would wear it if he was a girl, that is a huge complement. I have yet to hear my son say anything close to that. haha! I love how you stacked the focal and the use of the silk cord. Gorgeous work. I would wear it AND I'm a girl ;-)

Love the necklace, this is something I would totally wear, and I am not even an "orange" person. It's simple yet very classic. I just love how everyone approached things so differently!

Sue, I love your piece. It's very classic. I love the way you added the button piece without taking away from Kristi's component.

Oh look you got a flower donut too! he he. Oh I love the sunstone with it! Do you know I was going to use sunstone with mine too! I had these amazing little pieces, and I NEVER use stone so I gave them away! *slaps forehead* Ack!

I love how you assembled everything and followed the wonderful coppery color of the donut.

Bead Soup Blog Party!

Welcome to the 3rd Bead Soup Blog Party! What is a Bead Soup Blog Party? Each beader was paired up with another jewelry designer and tasked with sending the following: ~ A focal ~ A special clasp (not just a lobster claw) ~ Some coordinating spacers or beads Using the focal and the clasp was mandatory, but we could use anything from our own stash to round out the rest, and choose to use the coordinating beads or not. You may recall my partner was Margot Potter ; click this link to see the blog post I wrote of what she sent me! Here's what I made! Dangly earrings! Come see what the rest of us made! 1. Bead Soup Blog Party!

Today is the day of the big Bead Soup Blog Party reveal! Lori Anderson, the wonderful host of this event, reported that there are 362 participants this year! That's a lot of blogs to look at. I will try my best to get to each and every one, but it may take weeks! My partner was Laura Zeiner from Stick Lizard Designs . She has a lot of talent, that girl. If you recall in my previous post , she sent me these beads: And this is what I made: I love love love the focal she sent me. It's gorgeous! The lack of sun here in Pittsburgh does nothing for this rock! The colors and crystals are beautiful! I had no idea what to do with it, though, and I pondered for quite a while. I decided to make links with 18 gauge copper wire and think I did an ok job at it. I'm sure there are some better ways to do this, and I'd love to hear about them. I'm just really starting to get into the world of wire and so my skills aren't that great. In any event, I made some beady links ...

The Tacky Earring Blog Hop

Diana Ptaszynski had a great idea, instead of a Tacky Christmas Sweater blog hop, a Tacky Holiday Earring blog hop! I was on it.  I had ideas right away.  I had so many I had to control myself.  You can buy these for $15 each, too!  Here we go! I found these awesome wreaths in the miniature Christmas section in Michaels, and they go perfectly with silver and copper colored plastic beads! These trees were found in Michaels, on an end-cap - I assume they are scrapbook or card making supplies, but make fantastic earrings.  The holes were a little small and far down, so I had to make LARGE loops.  Paired these with cute little gold colored jingle bells! And, finally, the ones I had in my head the moment she announced the blog hop.  Dr. Seuss sparkly puff balls with ribbons.  The only thing that would have made these better for me is if I could have found the red ribbons I really wanted to pair these with - don't get me wrong, the silver is ...
