Bohemian Inspired Jewelry Celebration Weekend!

I was lucky enough to be contacted by Interweave and asked if I wanted to participate in Lorelei and Erin's big book celebration this weekend!  Of course, I said YES!  I love both of those ladies and to help celebrate their book is a great way to tell them how much I admire them!  If you haven't seen it already, here's a photo of the cover - it's a sweet book!
I wanted to make something inspired by a design in their book, and I finally settled on making this bracelet after Erin's project, Fleur-De-Lis.  It's on page 89 of the book, if you want to take a look at her design.  I always like to use my own beads in jewelry that I make, although I don't always have to.  However, Erin used some corrugated wood beads and they looked very similar to the ribbed round beads I make, so it ended up being a perfect way for me to incorporate some of my beads.  I made the beads in a very light amethyst color, and coated them with orchid enamel.  I love the look enamel gives transparent glass.  I used purple linen cord (as opposed to Erin's twisted cotton cord) and a beautiful wood button.  I liked the button for the project because it had leaves on it, and the beads are floral-y to me.
Here's a closeup of the button.  The project was quite easy to do and I can see myself making more of these bracelets with my beads, in other styles as well.  This project works up very quickly and I actually made it at night while watching tv and unwinding after another crazy day!
The book is great because the photos are gorgeous, the directions are clear, the materials are clearly listed and a glossary of techniques is provided for your reference.  The projects are very interesting.  In fact, I have many pages dog-eared in the hopes that I can get around to making them using my own lampwork beads and add my own twist to the designs they have graciously provided for us!  Some of the projects I want to make are Oxford Circus (I love the wool ribbon Lorelei used in that design!  SO perfect for winter), Garden Graces, Afternoon Tea (with my own beads on the end - sweeeeeet!), Sari Summer (again, with my own lampwork beads), Charmed Dragonfly and Unfolding.  Of course, this is just a partial list of all the projects in the book!  In fact, there are 51 projects in the book - unbelievable!

There are a few other lovely jewelry designers taking part in this celebration over the weekend.  You can visit Beading Daily.com if you aren't already subscribed to see the kick-off post AND to see the list of the other designers! You can also visit the Interweave Store to purchase your own hard copy or the eBook!

Thank you to Interweave for contacting me about this celebration weekend, and thanks to Lorelei and Erin for providing some great inspiration!  I think you'll find this book well worth the very reasonable price!

I love the woodsy button mixed with the pink beads, Sue! I think I am enjoying the more relaxed softer way of using linen and cording now, after spending so much money on metal!

What a lovely bracelet! I love that these designs can easily be transformed with what your style is, the color you love and the materials you have on hand. That is a winning book in my mind. So nice to be hopping along with you! Enjoy the day, Miss Sue!

Bead Soup Blog Party!

Welcome to the 3rd Bead Soup Blog Party! What is a Bead Soup Blog Party? Each beader was paired up with another jewelry designer and tasked with sending the following: ~ A focal ~ A special clasp (not just a lobster claw) ~ Some coordinating spacers or beads Using the focal and the clasp was mandatory, but we could use anything from our own stash to round out the rest, and choose to use the coordinating beads or not. You may recall my partner was Margot Potter ; click this link to see the blog post I wrote of what she sent me! Here's what I made! Dangly earrings! Come see what the rest of us made! 1. The Tacky Earring Blog Hop

Diana Ptaszynski had a great idea, instead of a Tacky Christmas Sweater blog hop, a Tacky Holiday Earring blog hop! I was on it.  I had ideas right away.  I had so many I had to control myself.  You can buy these for $15 each, too!  Here we go! I found these awesome wreaths in the miniature Christmas section in Michaels, and they go perfectly with silver and copper colored plastic beads! These trees were found in Michaels, on an end-cap - I assume they are scrapbook or card making supplies, but make fantastic earrings.  The holes were a little small and far down, so I had to make LARGE loops.  Paired these with cute little gold colored jingle bells! And, finally, the ones I had in my head the moment she announced the blog hop.  Dr. Seuss sparkly puff balls with ribbons.  The only thing that would have made these better for me is if I could have found the red ribbons I really wanted to pair these with - don't get me wrong, the silver is cool and all, but in my head they w
