San Diego Beads

I think I mentioned that a few weeks ago, I got to go to San Diego with the engineer because he was presenting a paper at UCSD - while I was there, I was able to see my college friend Kelly and my Aunt Kathleen. Of course, everywhere I go, I have to find some bead stores. This trip, I found two that were easy for us to find. This is the first one I'll tell you about!

The Black Sheep is a bead and knitting store (more like a knitting store with some beads) on the Historic 101 in Encinitas. We stopped there before we went to my Aunt's house; besides visiting the bead store, we had lunch at a very authentic Japanese restaurant. The engineer was quite happy which was great because he waited patiently without sighing while I looked through the beads and buttons!
First, I bought these awesome czech beads. Pretty very tiny two-toned faceted beads in emerald and teal blue; then the beautiful blue cathedral beads.

They had a really great supply of buttons there - I purchased both of these in the hopes that I can use them in some jewelry designs. If not, I'll just use them on some clothing or something!

Very pretty beads but even better, you visited San Diego! I love the San Diego area, we honeymooned at the Del Coronado Hotel which is my all time favorite destination. Next time I'm in the area I'll have to check out the bead shops!

Bead Soup Blog Party!

Welcome to the 3rd Bead Soup Blog Party! What is a Bead Soup Blog Party? Each beader was paired up with another jewelry designer and tasked with sending the following: ~ A focal ~ A special clasp (not just a lobster claw) ~ Some coordinating spacers or beads Using the focal and the clasp was mandatory, but we could use anything from our own stash to round out the rest, and choose to use the coordinating beads or not. You may recall my partner was Margot Potter ; click this link to see the blog post I wrote of what she sent me! Here's what I made! Dangly earrings! Come see what the rest of us made! 1. The Tacky Earring Blog Hop

Diana Ptaszynski had a great idea, instead of a Tacky Christmas Sweater blog hop, a Tacky Holiday Earring blog hop! I was on it.  I had ideas right away.  I had so many I had to control myself.  You can buy these for $15 each, too!  Here we go! I found these awesome wreaths in the miniature Christmas section in Michaels, and they go perfectly with silver and copper colored plastic beads! These trees were found in Michaels, on an end-cap - I assume they are scrapbook or card making supplies, but make fantastic earrings.  The holes were a little small and far down, so I had to make LARGE loops.  Paired these with cute little gold colored jingle bells! And, finally, the ones I had in my head the moment she announced the blog hop.  Dr. Seuss sparkly puff balls with ribbons.  The only thing that would have made these better for me is if I could have found the red ribbons I really wanted to pair these with - don't get me wrong, the silver is ...

AE Component of the Month - July - Scarabs by Me!

I provided the scarab beads for the Component of the Month Challenge over at Art Elements for July! And as usual, didn't take a photo of my own bead before I started working with it.  But here is the one I used - unfortunately, you can't see the lustrous oil slick colors of this black metallic glass because once again we have cloudy days here in Pittsburgh. I made a choker length necklace using spiral stitch and these awesome seed beads that go so well with this black metallic glass! I used hematite swarovski crystals to divide the bead stitching and the scarab focal bead; I actually ordered a pile of pairs of various black swarovski colors and decided that these match the best! I finished off the necklace with the ball socket clasp - it's a nice way to finish a spiral stitch - the size is just right and it's fairly easy to sew into the design. Please check out what our guests and team members made with their scarabs! And thanks to everyone who took par...
