Art Elements April Theme Challenge - Repurpose

The AE Theme Challenge this month is Repurpose chosen by Lesley. Great subject, and I wish I had more time to work on it. The day job kind of takes away my creative energy at times, and this month is no exception! However I did manage to do a few things!

The first thing I thought of for the theme was something I had been thinking about for a long time. I remembered I had this magazine that repurposed those desiccant containers you get in pill bottles into beaded beads. I set out to find that magazine in my stash.

I'm glad I found it, because it was actually driving me nuts as to where it was. Here are some photos of me in the process of making some of these beads.

So the first one I made, I liked ok. But noticed on the end that you could see the white container through the ends. So I got a sharpie out for the next one, and colored the ends so they didn't look so white.

Then I made a few more of these beads, and quite honestly, I was done with it. If I get back to them, I'l…

AJE Component of the Month - My Turn - Beaded Beads!

It was my turn to provide the Component of the Month over at Art Jewelry Elements this month.  I chose to make beaded beads for everyone.

I got the tutorial from Datz Katz over on etsy - Debra Schwartz has many tutorials for beaded goodies if you want to visit her store!

Here's what I made from several pairs of my beaded beads!

Of course, there are other things you can do with pairs of beaded beads besides making earraings, but I really love making earrings so....

Please check out what everyone else made with their beaded beads!

Beaded Beads

I've been making beaded beads this week because I'm doing a bathroom gut/redo and there are times when I have down time and need to occupy myself - can't make glass beads that way, but I can make beaded beads!  These ones are going into the SueBeads etsy store this afternoon!  Please take a look!

AJE Component of the Month - Kristen Stevens

It's that time again, hard to believe, it's Component of the Month over at Art Jewelry Elements.  This month, the sweet Kristen Stevens provided beaded beads to everyone to make something gorgeous with.  Here's what I made!

This first pair was made with my own lampwork beads in a constrasting color to the pretty cinnamon colored beaded beads Kristen made.  The ear wires are hand-forged niobium since I'm allergic to just about everything anymore!  Sorry the photos aren't the best, they were taken under artificial light since there's no real light here in Pittsburgh until May...

For this second pair, I made bead caps!  I used some copper sheet that I had fold-formed and patinaed in the flame, then punched and dapped, sanded, and punched holes in (lots of steps!) along with some copper heishe and titanium hematite I picked up at Bead Fest.  It's hard for you to see the pretty colors and texture on the bead caps, but they do look nice!  The ear wires are sterli…
