My First Attempts At Enameling



Here are two photos of what I made this morning. Not like Barbara's, but ok. I'll use them for myself, in any event. I hope to do more this weekend - between school delays today, sick kid and my own headache (I need to get the chiropractor) I haven't gotten much accomplished this week. I do have a few bead sets to list in the etsy shop - I'll let you know later when I do!

Look pretty good to me. Are you having any problems with the enamel cracking off the beads?

Not yet, Renate. I really did just finish them. The problem I had was some beads totally melted, and it's hard to get the enamel on the whole bead at one time. I did notice that when I took my time and thought about what I was doing, I did a better job. We'll see - I do love the look of these beads! PPP I guess! I would love to take the class, though, and see it done!

It looks great!! I just need to find the time to do it. I have everything I need although only a minimum in enamel. Can't wait to see how mine turns out. BTW, love the new beads you listed yesterday :)

Sue I have found that with the lampworking torches it is too hot. So I have turned the flame down and worked out in the flame with the thin filigree beads. With a thicker piece of metal I'm sure you would have to adjust.

AE Component of the Month - July - Scarabs by Me!

I provided the scarab beads for the Component of the Month Challenge over at Art Elements for July! And as usual, didn't take a photo of my own bead before I started working with it.  But here is the one I used - unfortunately, you can't see the lustrous oil slick colors of this black metallic glass because once again we have cloudy days here in Pittsburgh. I made a choker length necklace using spiral stitch and these awesome seed beads that go so well with this black metallic glass! I used hematite swarovski crystals to divide the bead stitching and the scarab focal bead; I actually ordered a pile of pairs of various black swarovski colors and decided that these match the best! I finished off the necklace with the ball socket clasp - it's a nice way to finish a spiral stitch - the size is just right and it's fairly easy to sew into the design.
