It's a Beautiful Day

The incredibly talented Erin Prais-Hintz of Treasures Found is hosting a blog hop today, the Challenge of Music! We were to pick our favorite song and design a piece of jewelry related to that song.

I have many many favorite songs. Probably you do too! Many songs that speak to you, remind you of days gone by, boyfriends, rough times, fun times, plain old joy. Music has really always been a part of my life - at one point I played the piano. At one point I played the flute. My dad used to quiz me about songs on the radio on the way home from my grandmother's house on Sunday nights. My first record was a Van Halen song! My cousin dated a radio dj and send me tapes of really cool bands like Santana. We would make up dances to songs we played on our boom box with my neighbors. Music is always there. When you're happy, when you're bored, when you're sad, when you need some noise.

It was really really hard for me to come up with a favorite song. I love Led Zeppelin - almost every one of their songs. Thank You has to be one of my favorites - it almost became the subject of this post. However, after thinking and thinking and waiting until the last minute, I had to pick Beautiful Day by U2. This is about a man who loses his material things and feels better because he realizes the value of what he has. There are many reasons I chose this song, and you have many blogs to get through today, so I'll leave with you with video and the words. Maybe you'll have a beautiful day today too!

Here are the lyrics, and a link to the music on youtube!

The heart is a bloom
Shoots up through the stony ground
There's no room
No space to rent in this town

You're out of luck
And the reason that you had to care
The traffic is stuck
And you're not moving anywhere

You thought you'd found a friend
To take you out of this place
Someone you could lend a hand
In return for grace

It's a beautiful day
Sky falls, you feel like
It's a beautiful day
Don't let it get away

You're on the road
But you've got no destination
You're in the mud
In the maze of her imagination

You love this town
Even if that doesn't ring true
You've been all over
And it's been all over you

It's a beautiful day
Don't let it get away
It's a beautiful day

Touch me
Take me to that other place
Teach me
I know I'm not a hopeless case

See the world in green and blue
See China right in front of you
See the canyons broken by cloud
See the tuna fleets clearing the sea out
See the Bedouin fires at night
See the oil fields at first light
And see the bird with a leaf in her mouth
After the flood all the colors came out

It was a beautiful day
Don't let it get away
Beautiful day

Touch me
Take me to that other place
Reach me
I know I'm not a hopeless case

What you don't have you don't need it now
What you don't know you can feel it somehow
What you don't have you don't need it now
Don't need it now
Was a beautiful day

Led Zeppelin was on my short list too. I like the charms and the gypsy feel of your bracelet. Treasure collected together... and I hear the song in my head. It looks like the song sounds, even tho the song's message is more minimal. They fit, it seems to me.

I love that song- I love to listen to it when i run- it makes me feel like my heart could just burst out of my chest (in a good way- not just from the running LOL) I think your bracelet is perfect for this! First, it looks like a musical instrument- I can practically hear those charms clinking and swinging together-second, all of the color and handmade beads and charms reflect the beauty of the creative spirit- great job Sue!

Love the movement, the color and the heart in this piece, Miss Sue! I bet this would be a blast to wear. You cannot wear a charm bracelet without having smile on your face and this is just plain fun! Great song choice. I admit that I never really knew all the words. It reminds me that I need to stop and appreciate all the beauty that is right in front of me this minute. It is all about the attitude and this bracelet and song are so upbeat and positive. Thank you for sharing your awesome talent with all of us and for joining me on this musical journey! Enjoy the day.

I love charm bracelets, though I have never been brave enough to try to make one. Yours is just gorgeous. It really is a beautiful day bracelet. I bet the way in jingles will make the wearer happy all day. U2 is a favorite of mine also and I do love that song.
This is great and has such movement! I love it!

The Tacky Earring Blog Hop

Diana Ptaszynski had a great idea, instead of a Tacky Christmas Sweater blog hop, a Tacky Holiday Earring blog hop! I was on it.  I had ideas right away.  I had so many I had to control myself.  You can buy these for $15 each, too!  Here we go! I found these awesome wreaths in the miniature Christmas section in Michaels, and they go perfectly with silver and copper colored plastic beads! These trees were found in Michaels, on an end-cap - I assume they are scrapbook or card making supplies, but make fantastic earrings.  The holes were a little small and far down, so I had to make LARGE loops.  Paired these with cute little gold colored jingle bells! And, finally, the ones I had in my head the moment she announced the blog hop.  Dr. Seuss sparkly puff balls with ribbons.  The only thing that would have made these better for me is if I could have found the red ribbons I really wanted to pair these with - don't get me wrong, the silver is cool and all, but in my head they w
