What a Beautiful Weekend!

Wow, what a beautiful weekend we are having! I am sore from all the yard work! Finally, at the end of May, we are actually getting May weather! The pool's open and for the first Memorial Day in a long time, the kids get to use it (or should I say, the whole neighborhood!)!

Happy Memorial Day to my grandfather, Lee, who is a WWII Veteran! Thanks for your service to our country!

Bead Soup Blog Party!

AE Component of the Month - July - Scarabs by Me!

I provided the scarab beads for the Component of the Month Challenge over at Art Elements for July! And as usual, didn't take a photo of my own bead before I started working with it.  But here is the one I used - unfortunately, you can't see the lustrous oil slick colors of this black metallic glass because once again we have cloudy days here in Pittsburgh. I made a choker length necklace using spiral stitch and these awesome seed beads that go so well with this black metallic glass! I used hematite swarovski crystals to divide the bead stitching and the scarab focal bead; I actually ordered a pile of pairs of various black swarovski colors and decided that these match the best! I finished off the necklace with the ball socket clasp - it's a nice way to finish a spiral stitch - the size is just right and it's fairly easy to sew into the design. Please check out what our guests and team members made with their scarabs! And thanks to everyone who took par...

Art Elements April Theme Challenge - Repurpose

The AE Theme Challenge this month is Repurpose chosen by Lesley. Great subject, and I wish I had more time to work on it. The day job kind of takes away my creative energy at times, and this month is no exception! However I did manage to do a few things! The first thing I thought of for the theme was something I had been thinking about for a long time. I remembered I had this magazine that repurposed those desiccant containers you get in pill bottles into beaded beads. I set out to find that magazine in my stash. I'm glad I found it, because it was actually driving me nuts as to where it was. Here are some photos of me in the process of making some of these beads. So the first one I made, I liked ok. But noticed on the end that you could see the white container through the ends. So I got a sharpie out for the next one, and colored the ends so they didn't look so white. Then I made a few more of these beads, and quite honestly, I was done with...
